Have never bought toys to play with for when the grandchildren come to visit. They just play with the lego and toy cars and games that belonged to my 3 sons and if they dig a bit deeper they find some of the things I had when I was young. You can guess I have never thrown anything away ( just have a very large loft):rotfl:
They do bring some of their own favourites too.
PS they love to bake and help in the kitchen. Also a walk along the beach to a cave entertained them this summer.
  • I have books and jigsaws, board games etc. I buy them at car boots, charity shops and fairs, also at The Works where I can get excellent books and educational toys for very little money.

I have also kept Lego, Starwars figures and spacecrafts, Magnadoodle, My Little Pony with Stables etc but would like to buy a few inexpensive toys to add to them. I have lots of drawing and colouring in stuff that's used a lot. I'll try The Works and (if I can get up early enough on a cold morning) car boot sales and charity shops.

A good place for inexpensive childrens toys are NCT sales. They are normally going on at this time of the year. Check your local sales at http://www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/home

Just click on the Nearly New Sales option and add your postcode to see you local sale :)

Now my grandchildren are getting older, they bring their DS's with them and head for the computer for games. But mostly they play out in the street here which they can't do at their own homes - I live in a cul-de-sac and there are always other children around. Nobody round here minds if they play footie or ride their bikes - just great for them and very unusual in London.

How old is older? MY DS6 used to love playing with Playdough at Grandma's when he was smaller, now he's more interested in playing board games with her, like draughts, ludo, and pick-up-sticks, or showing her where she's going wrong with her Super Mario game on her DS LOL.

Grandma picked up a compendium of board games for £10 that all folds together neatly in a wooden box.

my two 9-year olds also love playing cards - particularly rummy and newmarket which we play for pence - they love amassing a whole heap of coins and it's good for their maths.
  • My dear little grandaughter is 2 and we love the playdough and craft activities.I am a retired nursery nurse so I am always planning things to do to keep her amused and active, we also go for a welly walk every Friday morning when I have her. She will amuse herself for hours with a basket of play food and also like the tea set. Didnt cost much money but she has loads of fun. We also sing lots of songs and have picnics on a rug in the lounge. Just great being a nanny!
