(Scottish renting query) Landlord only returned half deposit,making unfair deductions

i would have thought the electric company might refund the £55 - which is nothing to do with the landlord, this overpayment is your misjudgement i'm afraid - you cannot blame the LL for this.0

I never blamed the LL for the £55 dont know where you got that from.
I was meaning that the LL wrote in the letter saying they had to contact the utility company to tell them I moved, and said this was because if it was still in my name it would cause issues for him and any new tenant
I am sure a new tenant wouldnt complain about having £55 credit in a meter would they!0 -

This will cause no issues with the LL or the tenant, the new tenant phones up the utility provider and gets a code for the key which is reprogrammed at the paypoint and all is done.
The £55 is your's and if you take a meter reading they will send you a cheque for what is left. The meter is reset with the new code anyway so the £55 is lost if it's not claimed back.0 -
as a matter of routine i always phone all utilities when any of my tenants move out...0
