Maestro online payment! All confused!

I'm paying for something online and needs the card number of my HSBC debit card!

I've put in the long number.. doesn't work. .I've put in the number labelled "card number" still doesn't work! I know sometimes you have to miss digits off/add them on?

Does anyone know which ones?

Does your Maestro card have 19 digits?

This is worrying me as my Clydesdale Bank one does and I've heard that some people make their online payment gateways only take 16 digits.

No, the card number will be 18 digits.

    No way it's only 9.

On HSBC and Natwest Debit cards, the number you should use is the one across the centre of the card. Confusingly, the one under "Card Number" is what should be written on the back of cheques to guarantee them.

    Hazza.
