Siemens Condenser dryer gets hot but doesn't dry?

Siemens Novotronic T230C Condenser dryer gets very hot and spins but the clothes don't dry. No water comes into the waste water container. I took out the filter below and made sure that wasn't blocked. Any ideas what could be wrong?

    Pump failure? But if it can't pump up to the waste tank then there should be a warning light for that. What does the manual say?

  • Thanks for your reply. I bought this dryer in a car boot market. I don't have a manual. On your suggestion, I had a look at the pump and it had siezed. I took it to bits and found a lot of sand in the motor that I cleaned out. Now at least it runs although I'm not sure if the dryer works the way it should. I put in some wet towels but after an hour they were still not dry. How long should it take to dry two very wet large towels?

    The dryer spins for a while (10+ minutes) then it stops, then spins for about a minute in the oposite direction. During this phase the pump is on. Then it stops again and reverses rotation again for another 10+ minutes or so while the pump is off. Does this sound about right?

    Sorry I have no idea when the pump should run, it only needs to pump to the top tank when it is full I would have thought?
    Drum reversal is deliberate and is an anti-creasing feature.
    Two large towels could well take more than an hour. Is it now extracting the water?

  • Yes, thanks for your help, it seems to work now. However, it seems to have a leak as there was a small puddle under it after it had dried a load. I will have to investigate.

    I tried your link for the manual but it didn't work or at least it was asking for a password. Is there a way around this?

    Sorry, no idea, I just went to the Siemens UK site and searched for manual downloads-suggest you try that.

  • HI my bosch condensing dry had similar problems. Normally leaks if the condenser area seals are not clean and dry. On my bosch model I also need to reach into the condenser space and mop up any water lurking inside the void. Also worth check that the machine is level.

    Engineer can out to look at problem with washing machine and I asked his advise re above. His suggestions were;

    to always allow the machine to finish the cooling down at the end of the cycle otherwise machine hold moist water.

    Clean seals as mentioned

    If not solved consider new condenser or pump but expensive.

    Good luck.
  • Thanks HappyReader,

    I tested the dryer again but this time it didn't leak. Maybe the water had been there from before. Thanks for your help.
