whatever way you slice it, if you've bought something with no intention of paying for it, it's theft!
and all he is is a scummy little thief - he'll get his comeuppance0 -

It seems to me that the two most common reasons for bankrupcy are either deliberate, spend it all because the stigma is gone, or get deeply in debt for whatever reason and then bury your head in the sand in the hope if you sing "la la la I'm not listening" for long enough it will all go away, whilst throwing out unopened bills and summons.

Not always, I'm afriad. Throw in the odd spell on unemployment, ill health and a couple of kids and it can soon spiral out of control. We went bankrupt last year out of necessity to save our sanity. OH is ill with ME/CFS so I am the only wage earner. We sold our big 4 bed house 2 years ago to repay some of the debt we were in but were still struggling on one wage. We get no help with council tax or the rent, so had no choice but to go bankrupt.
As a result, after 6 years of promising a friend in Copenhagen we would visit him, we've finally got our passports sorted - at a cost of £200 that we paid for in cash, without the use of a credit card. Ok, so now he's moved to New York and in reality we have no chance of affording the air fare to get THERE, but that's life. I need a new car (mine is critical with life support about to be cut off), but at least now I can afford to go out and buy one without taking out a loan or using credit.
Yes, there will always be people who take the P*SS out of the system and abuse it - our debts were incurred by trying to exist, not on fancy holidays, sports cars, expensive gadgets or clothes. But what goes around comes around, three fold. He will get his just desserts and then some!
Anway, sorry for waffling, just wanted to get it off my chest....BCSC # 9 and proud! :beer:0 -
This sort of thing makes me so angry..................
I have a friend who with her husband lives on a pension, they do not own a house, but rent and so get housing benefit and CT benefit, they have a car which is a necessity for shopping etc......... they took out a loan to buy their car and are struggling to pay it back, when I spoke about bankrupcy they went ape !!!!..... 'we borrowed the money its up to us to pay it back'. They have a very good credit record, everything is paid on time, and the loan people keep sending them offers of more loans, because of their expemplary payment record........they live on £100 a month for food etc and put £20 a month of fuel in the car. When thats gone they do not go out unless its on the bus to the local town or the shopping centre and library. They manage a holiday by going out of season to a caravan site, cash to pay for it is raised by e baying what little they have or by boot sales.... although they did say that they might be reduced to going on the Sun £9.50 holidays next year. When they go away they take food with them, not eating out, they cannot afford to.....
They have not bought any new clothes for years, mending the ones they have........... and they use their heating very sparingly, they cannot afford high bills for gas and electricity.......
That little S--t needs stamping on and quick, what he has done is immoral.... I really hope he does not get away with it..............Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
i'm glad alot of people agree with me and i will try and keep you updated as and when i find anything out ...ive been in a bit of a bad mood for the last day or so and i'm thining it could be becasue of this ...well..that and trying to find money to pay for an engagement present and engagement party which wwe just can't afford this month due to paying the cc ..0

I think this is part of your problem - you're feeling bitter because you're struggling and he seems to be living the high life.
well don't, bitterness will only eat you up - and it won't change anything. Concentrate on yourself and not this loser!0 -
you may be right dolly ..i don't think i'm like that but...i will be keeping an eye on it ....i think my bad mood is because of the party though we landed up going last night but could only stay for a few hours due to not having enough money ..i explained this to my friend and as she knows how kind've proud i am she never offered to buy me a drink (for which i am very grateful) we had a good night even though it was only a couple of hours long and today i don't feel as stressed or in a bad mood..i know i'll be the same at christmas cause i'm determined no debt from xmas will be carried over to the new year ...which will be a first for me ...but thanks dolly i will be more aware of this0

Hi elantan, just wondered if there has been any developments?0

When I first moved to this country I worked with a woman who boasted to me that she'd managed to qualify for housing help through her local council by faking a mental illness (depression). She also talked them into letting her rent a big place, a maisonette normally reserved for couples. Later she bought the maisonette for a tiny amount of money through the scheme that allowed people to do that. I know the area (I live there myself) and her place must be worth at least £200,000 now. She then moved elsewhere (I think she managed to buy another place) and rented the maisonette back to the council for them to use for tenants (which she told me was £500 a month guaranteed income). I would tell the council what she'd done in an instant, if I had her details and could prove what she told me!! I can't believe they let anyone do that. She must have been convincing though. So I understand your feelings Elantan, I'd be pretty angry in your place too.0

I totally agree with you cathybird, and have posted my views above. Unfortunately, with ANY system there will Always be those who 'play it' for their own gains. Again, unfortunately, that also impacts on others who need to use the system legitimately.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
