Bill of horror

Options
Hi
I've been billed by my landlord for £675.15 today broken down thus -
404.45 Electricity and 270.70 Water
I moved into the property which is a two bed flat on 4th June this year and live in a property share with another tenant in the flat. The landlord lives in the flat below and the meters are in his basement, he put the bill under the door after needing me to ask repeatedly for one but I am genuinely shocked at how much he is demanding. Does this figure seem reasonable or do I have cause for concern?
Please advise
Kind Regards
William

Leccy seems about right for 6 months, water seems a bit pricey though.
  • Thanks for the reply.
I pay gas seperately as the meter is in the flat for that and the heating and water heating are gas powered. Is that still about right, I thought £80 a month for electric was really high?

I worked it at about £67 pm leccy , would be right if you did not have gas too, but depends on the prpoerty and other factors :o
  • it is a two bed flat. Usual appliances, electric shower. The gas bill is £20 a month on standing order. so combined with water it will be costing £145 a month just for utilities? This seems like an awful lot to me :(

You have the right to see original bills from suppliers, not just what the landlord scrawls on paper. You can also request (in advance) an appointment to see the meters.

You also must have an accessible gas safety valve to cut supply.

£80 per month - for two people with separate cooking, bedrooms, showers is not, unfortunately, unrealistic for electricity only flat.

(Hmm, wandered off before posting. As it's dual fuel then there is cause.)
  • Ok
Thanks guys, guess I better just man up and pay ;)

Kim has a good point, however saying the gas is £20 by standing order does not really mean anything, I could pay £15 pm for my house but naturally would soon accrue arrears, my leccy is £27 and in slight credit, ideally you want to know what Khw you are consuming via the property.

The bill I received from the landlord says -
    opening reading 8803
    closing reading 11694
    unit cost 13.99
    Amount owing 404.45

    and that is it
any advice on what I should do?

You've already been given advice on what to do.
Ask to see the suppliers bill.
