Is a deemed contract valid if your meter unavailable for others suppliers to see?
Options
Hello everyone
I moved into a business in 2007, it had 5 meters at the premises, only 1 belonged to me, the rest belonged to neighbouring shops.
I signed up for a new electricity contract deal with edf as soon as I took over, only after running a check on all meters, to find the right meter.
2 years later I am contacted by my actual electricity supplier(BE), took all my details in order to perform COT. Basically I found out I had signed up with wrong meter. This was due to misidentifying my meter, my meter serial number was not linked to my Mpan, whenever I queried my meter or serial with any supplier they couldnt find it on the ecoes database. So I thought it was de-energised meter so coudnt be supplying my premises.
Now my actual electricity company (BE) are backdating bills for past 30 months on the basis of a deemed contract tariff. Can they do this?
After raising this issue with the electric company it's now been fixed they added my meter serial to the ecoes database and linked with my mpan. So have moved to another supplier at a competitive tariff.
I have been able to get hold of screenshots of the ecoes database, before and after. Am I eligible to pay the backdated bills at the deemed tariff? It's a huge figure they are asking for, 80k
