Benefits Wales to England

Options
Can anyone answer a question for me please.
If my husband and I move home from Wales Into England, do the benefits (that have taken me 12 months to finally get ) :) get transfered automatically with me, OR must I go through the whole process of applying and being accessed again.

Hang on though, which benefits are these?

Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit would have to be reapplied for. The only assessment is on your income, but you do have to start again, and there may be differences in terms of what the 'average' cost of a suitable sized property is for you, and what you actually end up renting, IYSWIM.

If you're not renting, then not a problem.

Thank you so much for your replys,
We are both In our seventies, and both receive DLA, and recently we were awarded pension credit which has been a tremendous booste to our lives. If we move back to England, It will be to an old persons council bungalow.
Just worried that we will loose what have at present and therefore reluctant to make the decision. Although it would mean being closer to Hospitals and family.

Both DLA and Pension Credit are not dependent on where you live, but on who you are - if you see what I mean. Good luck with your decision about moving nearer to family.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • I think it really depends upon the Council involved. When we moved, we informed our new Counciul weeks in advance and they actually did everything for us including contacting the DSS and all we had to do when we moved was simply sign the relevant forms.

My advice would be to talk to your new Council ASAP explaining everything.
