Yes the benefit is contributions based not means tested and lasts for up to 6 months before you go on to the means tested one. You do need to be actively seeking work though.0

Yes as soon as you finish even if you get PILON.
You need to be job seeking to get it.0 -

Good luck mate. I expect I'll be joining you and researching these questions in practice.
As others have pointed out, Contribution based JSA is not means tested, so your lump sum and any savings shouldn't make a difference, though there's some confusion about deferment if you receive cash in lieu of notice.
You do of course have to provide evidence that you're actively seeking work, but I guess you can seek work as agressivly or as passively as you see fit.
If i may hijack this thread a little...
I've read that the non-means tested contribution based JSA is not affected by other savings OR OTHER INCOME. What if, for example, an applicant was receiving a modest income from renting out some spare land, or maybe getting a few pounds a day from adwords or maybe Amazon affiliate income from some previously constructed website.
Not really employment..... or is it?

if it is done on a regular basis and selling things which are not- how can i put it -not your old stuff but things you are buying to sell on basically you are a trader and should be regisetered as such with the Inland Revenue and declaring any income to the jobcentre, the same would go for the income for renting out land - you are classed as a business and technically the same for any other income you've mentioned - you are having to undertake a task/run a website whatever for which you recieve payment so you are classed as working by both inland revenue and jobcentre. Saving do not affect JSA(C) but other income can including personal pensions can affect itskintbint x
