Company that cleaning kitchen floor and seal grout - worth it?

Our kitchen floor tiles are quite nice but the grout is really mucky and it's difficult to get clean.

So I'm tempted by a flyer that came through our door from Carpet Care. It says that they can clean filthy grout lines and apply sealer to keep them looking clean longer.

Does this all sound possible without damaging the grout? And what do you think would be a fair price? Anyone heard of 'Carpet Care'?

Thanks!!

  • Hi
Can i ask where are you based ?Does the company hace a website that you can look at and any reviews/feedback from other customers.
    Are your tiles natural/ceramic/already sealed.
Main method used these days is to spray a solution onto the floor and then using a special tool (enclosed pressure wash tool) to clean the surface and extract the dirty water away.this leaves the tiles and hopefully the grout all clean ready for resealing if that is what you want.
Is any of the grout missing or loose?
Expect to pay well for this service and try not to fall for any sales talk as some companies charge a lot of money for this relatively quick job.
    hope that helps

I don't think the tiles can be sealed as they do get so dirty and a mop doesn't really completely clean them. They were there when we bought the house so we don't know too much about them, they are rough rather than shiny. There is some small amount of grout missing in places and so I was concerned in case the cleaning causes more damage.

But the grout does look terrible at the minute. If I really scrub at it with my steam cleaner brush attachment you can clean it up but it's really hard work and doesn't last long

sounds as if the tiles are porous and may be made from a natural material ie,sandstone etc. Correct cleaning and sealing will help upkeep of appearance but at a cost as it will be an ongoing process.how often will depend on use and how well it is done in the first place, perhaps every couple of years?
If the grout is that bad and some is missing then it may be better to remove the old and renew.Anyone `handy` if that is the right term would be able to scrape ouy the old grout and renew, or talk to a tiler.
Your local tile shop will sell products that properley clean and then seal the surface if you want to save money and do it yourself.
It is important to know what tile is made of so that you do not clean with the wrong solution.
Did the company you mention have a website?
hope that is of some help.
    good luck

Tiles aren't carpets! First warning sign.

Use a steam cleaner on it - but I see you have. Sounds like its an idea to [STRIKE]rack[/STRIKE] rake out the grout and replace it.

If the tiles are natural stone they will need strippng and resealing on an ongoing basis. If you (or predecessors) have been overenthusiatic with your cleaning you may have removed what was protecting the tiles anyway and surprise they get very dirty very quickly.

First step is to identify the tile material.

  • Thanks for your help, very informative. Only thing is not sure how to positively identify the tile material - I imagine it is natural, don't know how to be sure.
