Short term line rental contracts?

Does anyone offer line rental contracts for less than 12 months minimum term? (preferably 3 or 6 months?)

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Just placed an order - they say the line in my flat appears to be active and can be re-activated free of charge :T

Yes I just rang them and they say the connection should be free.

I just want a landline but will be getting BB from someone else, for landline it's only a monthly contract.

I like the free calls to mobiles at weekends ???????

In August you said they wanted £110 connection so you cancelled your order. What makes you think things have changed?

Ok if you like BT rebranded.Apparently Customer Service leaves a lot to be desired.

I am moving to a new house.

In the other property a few months back they had to come and reconnect the line,so an engineer was required at the property, as the inside connection was broken and they said there would be a connection fee when I rang to book.

When I rang today with the address of the new property they said everything looks OK and they can connect and should not need an engineer and there should be no cost.

At my present property I have no working landline.

When I cancelled before it was because they were going to take three weeks to come to the property and fix the broken wire and I felt for £110 that was a long time to wait.

I am not a fan of BT. I have been told that this is a separate company but I suppose they may be affiliated with BT.

The monthly contract is certainly a lot better than BT.

Hope that clarifies things for you. :T

Well if I'm not happy with the service I can cancel as it's monthly but they said at the end of the conversation they will contact me before the connection date if there is a connection fee and I can decide whether or not to go ahead.

The girl didn't actually mention £110 at all today but yes that was quoted to me the last time when I said I'd need an engineer at the other property.

I said if there is a dialtone at the new property hopefully there won't be a connection fee.

They told me the fee will apply if they need to send someone out (ie something goes wrong when they try to activate the existing line) but I'll have the option to continue or not.

Having a BT Openreach engineer in the family means I'll definitely not be paying them to send someone out to diagnose any faults :rotfl:
