Standing charges?
Hi,
I'm a bit confused atm (nothing unusal there).
Currently with Southern Electric, paying no standing charge on my pre-payment meters.
However saw my electric payments shoot up the last 4-5 months.
So I've just started the process of changing suppliers to BG.
I was on the understanding that they do not have standing charges on their PAYG meters - yet I have been quoted one of 18p a day for electric.
Are there any companies out there that do not charge a standing charge?
I thought I had it sussed, but clearly not. Lol.
Many thanks.

Most companies that offer no standing charge tariffs actually charge more for the first X number of units every quarter.
A few offer a flat rate with no standing charge, such as Ebico (but they may be expensive depending on your usage)That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Yeah, I did wonder if the prices were higher if there was no standing charge.
Just seems strange how my usage shoot up so much, when nothing in the house changed.
Tried looking on the comparison sites, but most seem to charge a SC, so will probably just have to stick it out with BG and see how much I use with them. Lol.0 -
According to the web British Gas have two prepaymeter tariffs dependent on the sort of meter you have. If it's an Actaris meter with KBD on the front there is no standing charge but a tier 1 and tier 2 rate. The other meters have the standing charge and one unit price. If you want a new meter they say they will give you one.0

There's no standing charge with ebico (and no 2 tier pricing either)
However, I suggest you use a comparison site to ensure you get yourself the lowest cost deal."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

A standing charge may well work out cheaper for you, as the unit prices are generally much lower.
Use a comparison site, enter your annual consumption in units (not pounds) and see what it suggests.0 -

I have this meter, yet a standing charge of £1.30 a week applies. Alongside 10.09 pence kwh.
Should I worry as this charge is on when should not be? Best to phone and have it removed? I did have a charge whilst on click pay as you go, however only discovered this was stopped by British Gas.
