  • no not tried insurance as i don't have content insurance only building would it still be covered or not....
  • It was attached to the wall and the electrics system so I'd say that was biuilding not contents (but I'm not an expert). Is your insurance landlord insurance or for where you live?
  • had contacted my insurance and they are saying i am not covered as it is not buildings and i don't have contents and it is a personal home cover not a business one so stuffed again

OK thanks for your help, i have already been to the police and they said they didn't want to know because they have not stolen from me they have stolen from British gas, i have also already sent a copy of the tenant agreement and they don't want to know because the tenant never had it changed from my name to his name meaning they think it was me all along even with the tenant agreement as it is one that you just fill in yourself they are basically saying i could have made it up.
The problem you have is that you probably failed to tell BG that you were moving out. This would have resulted in them sending you a 'final' bill. They would then have expected to set up a new account in the tenants name, which obviously did not happen. As a result of this it is now a matter between you and your tenant. BG may relent if you can definitively prove you live elsewhere and that the property was rented out. I suspect to do that you would have to show:
    1) On electral register at another address,
    2) Bank statmenets and utilities bills address to another addreess,
    3) Landlord stuff like 'rental insurance', gas safety certificates, tax returns etc.

Sounds to me like this was a more 'informal' kind of tenancy arrangement...OP did the tenant not leave a deposit though?
