Condemed boiler, Cant get help!

My carbon monoxide alarm went off in the middle of the night and british gas has now condemed the boiler which is 15-20years old.

I now have no hot water or heating and my wife is around 6 weeks pregnant. I am on a debt management plan and I was starting to get back on my feet with a very tight budget.

I am unable to get any form of credit to pay for the boiler due to my poor credit history and I dont seem to be entitled to any sort of grant to help with the cost as I am not on benefits of any kind.

Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can turn to for help, I live in Scotland, and I know things tend to be different depending on where you live

  • Are you sure you are not eligable for a Warm Front Grant?

  • As we are not in reciept of any benefits and my wife is only 5 or 6 weeks preganant, which is not pregnant enough aparently we are not entitled to any help from them, the girl on the phone said you have to be near the end of the pregnancy to be elegable

    thanks for the reply :)

Did you try bg for a quote?, they may be able to get you terms for a cost. tbh I feel for your position but I can't really imagine anyone would replace your boiler free unless you feel you may be deserving from a charity organization. If funds are really desperate could you fit an immersion to the tank and some form of storage heaters?

Dodger27, Just because BG have condemned it, doesn't mean it cannot be repaired, assuming spares are still available, surely you could find a reputable gas safe registered engineer to at least give you a second opinion, and even get it working to get you through winter. Someone will be along soon to advise you as to what approach you should take, good luck with it.

  • Dodger27.....What about a DWP Crisis Loan, or the DWP Social Fund? Did you check also www.entitledto.com??? This is part of the Elizabeth Finn Care charity...they may well help with a loan for a boiler. It may be your best option. Good Luck.
