Paypal taking unauthorised money

I wonder if I can ask advise/opinions on what to do. A payment has been taken from my paypal account which is funded by my current account for over £700. I havent made this payment.
I've emailed paypal but so far no reply. I've phoned the bank as it has taken me way above my overdraft limit and they say I have got to take it up with paypal.
Just wondered if anyone else has ever experienced anything of this nature or if you have any ideas of how to solve this. I am in total shock as I cant believe that this could happen.
Help please.................... Thanks in anticipation!

Can you access your paypal account and see where the payment went? It sounds as though your paypal account has been compromised. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I agree with fay, can you access your paypal account? If yes, then change the password quickly, if no then phone paypal this very minute and get a hold put on your account.
In fact, phone paypal anyway...

What about the direct debit guarantee?
Why did the bank tell you to take it up with paypal?
Once you told them that the payment was unauthorised they should have reversed it immediately.0 -
hi!
not sure if this is the same as what happened to me, but someone opened a seperate paypal a/c in my name (in addition to the one i already have) and used my switch details to fund their purchases from ebay. i phoned my bank, who requested chargebacks on my behalf from switch, but i still had to take it up with paypal, i suppose to verify that i was telling the truth re the fraud. i rang paypal, then they emailed me an affadavit that i had to sign and POST (snail mail) back to paypal in the states. there were 3 fraudulent transactions, and switch refunded all of them, but it took a couple of months for the refunds to come through. my bank, in the mreantime, were very good, and said if i needed to use my overdraft facility during this time, they would allow this interest free. fortunately for me, i didnt actually need to do this, although the loss was £300, but it was good that the offer was there.
its horrible when this happens, and i feel for you, hope you get sorted out soon.

The other thing to do as a matter of urgency, assuming you haven't responded to a phish, is to double check your internet security. You may have a virus that records your details, ask over on the techie board about cleaning your PC thoroughly to prevent any future problems.
