not sure where I stand Candis

Candis charity magazine.
Was sold a magazine by a sales rep that called at my home. Before I signed anything I asked specifically how much of my monthly payment went to charity, he quoted 99.9%, so I agreed to sign up on a monthly basis. I asked if I wanted to cancel could I do so at anytime, he said yes, it was a monthly payment and could be cancelled anytime.
Got a phone call a few nights ago from candis welcoming me to the club, and saying that as I was a new customer they would save me some money, I said thanks and that was all. Then I recieve a letter saying they changed my subscription to an annual payment, and they would take a full payment from my bank account, there was no mention of this on the phone call. I rang Candis up and they changed it back to monthly for me, but then told me of a £5 fee I would have to pay. This £5 annual fee was never mentioned at the time of selling me the magazine.
So I emailed Candis to ask to cancel my account. Recieved an email back saying I would be contacted in the future as I had signed up for a 12 month contract and was cancelling outside the cooling off period. I was told it was a monthly contract, not annual.
I then find out that only 10% not 99,9% of the money goes to charity.
Am I going to have to pay for a full years subscription, was it mis-selling or not?
Or was I just daft to beleive the sales man stood on my doorstep .. Lesson learnt, I'll never sign up for anything that is sold on my doorstep again!!
