Didnt realise until I got home that some idiot has opened their door against mine and taken paint off - approx 8 inch mark!!
Can this be filled in or how do we go about rectifying it ??
Many thanks for any advice.

My husband is ranting around the house like a mad thing - cant really blame him - some folk just plain inconsiderate!!!

Probably a trolley. How old is your car? Do you intend to keep forever?

Does an amateur repair bother you? If not, do it yourself, with shop bought repair stuffs

Does a cheap but professional repair bother you? you'll still be able to notice it has been repaired.... If not, take to a back street body shop and pay I guess £200 They will fill it and spray locally, it will end up noticeable that one door is different from the other.

Is your only acceptable solution going to be a fully professional almost unoticeable repair? If so claim on your insurance or pay about £800 - £1000 whole side of the car will be resprayed after repair has been done which might be a new skin on the door.

Only have the car a few months and only a year old when we got it! So intend keeping it about 3 years. If I claim through insurance would it not shoot the premiums up ?? - really a no win situation.
Def not a trolley as mark is vertical - so probably another door ....

Do you have any insurance no claims bonus? is it protected?

You will lose 2 years on an unproteced NCB

Get a quote now for insurance online put in false details and say you have 2 years less NCB and say you have had an at fault claim .....

You will get a good idea of how much your insurance will be next year.

We use a local insurance company - would it not be easier just to ring and ask then what difference it would make if we went down this line ??

  • Something similar happened to me last week when someone must have driven into my car causing a big scuff on the door and wing. I checked around paintwork repairers and cheapest company was ChipsAway

    https://www.chipsaway.co.uk

They did a great job, and would recommend them.

And before anyone asks.....no I don't work for them/own them/have any affiliation to them, apart from being a happy customer of theirs.

No, because then you are making them aware that you have had an 'incident'. You are legally required to report such 'incidents' and this in itself may put up your insurance renewal even if you do not make a claim.

You are legally required to tell them but sensible people only tell them if they really have to.

You were lucky DH. When I contacted our local agent he appeared not to know how to handle the job! As someone pointed out on here, its a franchise, so the quality and experience of the franchisee will vary.

On such a new car you should be Ok just having the one panel sprayed and blended into adjoining panels without a noticeable shade difference. A decent bodyshop will probably charge you c.£350 for this.
