Renault Megane Bonnet Release!

Just a quick rant with no particular purpose.....

I've just spent 15 minutes trying to find the damned bonnet release on one of the works pool cars (the hateful Renault Megane). Finally admitted defeat and looked in the manual, only to discover the damn thing is not where the manual says it is!! Eventually found the thing then had to tease out this tiny little catch from the grille at the front. I had difficulty getting hold of the damn thing and I have fairly small hands.

That's before you get onto the way it drives - slightly less go than some buses I've driven, but with the added bonus of the worst gear stick that I've used since a C reg Polo my brother had and in the Polo's defence there had been various animals nesting in various parts of it before it came to me.

Make's me appreciate just how nice my 8 year old focus actually is!

Gargh french cars!

  • Quite a lot of European cars have the bonnet catch in the passenger footwell, presumably as they would normally be left hand drive. It just goes to show how often the others using their car have done their fluid checks ;).

One of the first tasks we get students to do at the beginning of the school year, is to open the bonnet on each of the handful of cars we have and check fluid levels. It usually takes a whole morning/afternoon, and is usually accompanied by much swearing! The bonnet catch is in a different place on each car, and the sight of grumbling teenagers upside down in the passenger seat trying to look under the glove box can be quite amusing.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

I've noticed this - the hired Corsa D I had last week had it there - assumedly they make them in the same factories as the LHD models as opposed to the likes of Astra which are made in RHD form at Ellesmere Port primarily.
