Used car, no tax, how?

Hi,
I've just bought a car which my dad is picking up for me and putting it on a transport trailer to bring home becuase there's no tax on it.
I have an insurance quote ready to be bought tonight, i was just wondering what will i need to get it taxed? I know you need the MOT and cover note, can I use a printed one if my insurance email me a copy?
Also, as the car is not registered in my name yet will this have any effect when trying to tax it?
Replies would be much appreciated.

You can print out the cover note from the insurer and go to the post office with the v5 slip at the bottom in your name.0

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_069680Tax with a Registration Certificate or New Keeper Supplement – in person or by post
You can tax in person at any Post Office® branch that issues tax discs.
You will need to take:- Registration Certificate or New Keeper Supplement
- insurance certificate or cover note – must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
- valid MOT certificate - if the car or motorcycle is over three years old - must be valid when the tax disc comes into force
- the payment for vehicle tax (not needed if your vehicle is exempt from paying vehicle tax)
