Leaky roof - insurance claim?

Hi,
Moved into our house 11 years ago - it's approximately 100 years old.
We noticed the roof was looking a little "tatty" so had a new one fitted about 5 years ago.
I'm in the process of having a new loft hatch fitted (we've never used the loft because the existing hatch was too small), and the person fitting it has noticed that the roof timbers in one corner are completely rotten. It looks like this has been ongoing for quite some years (from before the new roof was fitted) .
I'm just after some advice as to whether our insurance company would pay out in this situation.
It's not been caused by one single "act" but was obviously leaking for years, unbeknown to us.
Can anyone advise please?
Regards
Mike
