Do not send it... Send a polite email back saying you will only ship the item once payment as cleared. If they need it earlier tell them to send a postal order via sd so you receive it tomorrow.

If they neg you then leave a calm response explaining the situation.

or get them to lodge the funds directly into your bank account. if they go into their local branch of your bank, you will have the money instantly. or thereabouts.

I have often found that cheque payers seem to want their items instantly and get cross when you won't ship as soon as they drop their cheque in the Post box. It also seems ot me that they slower they pay, the quicker they want their item sometimes.

A while ago I posted about a buyer I had problems with. Virtually all my items are paid for by paypal but this guy waits a week then decides to send a cheque. Even before I got the cheque he was asking where his item was as he needed it urgently and he only bought from me as my feedback indicated that I shipped the day after auction finished, so he was surprised he hadn't got his item already.

I explained that virtually all my feedback was from buyers who paid by paypal so I shipped same or enxt day, but of course could not ship his item as he had not paid. He then went off on a rant, telling me he was reporting me to ebay because I was offering a better service for those using paypal than I was for others, and it wasn't fair. After that I never heard from him again.

I wouldnt send it! If they wanted it earlier then they should have paid earlier. I would reply and tell them that I am unwilling to post the item out before you have received the money and said money has cleared. If they still really want the item then they will have to pay by some other means or wait until they come back off holiday!

Could they not pay by paypal or do you not accept it?

  • I hate customers that take it for granted that sellers will bend over backwards for them. If someone asks me in advance if I can send out an item immediately, I will generally do my best to accommodate them, and if the item is of low value I'd probably even risk sending it before receiving payment, but I would not appreciate a buyer assuming that it would be OK.
In this case, it sounds as though they've probably made/ changed their travel plans at short notice rather than just not bothering to tell you earlier. I'd probably ask them if they can pay into the bank for instant clearance if they need the item urgently, otherwise ask if they'd prefer postage to be delayed until their return rather than have to collect the item from the sorting office.

Apparantly the item is for the daughter who wants to take it away with her, that is why he wants it delivered by friday am,
I to will normally take a chance before clearance with low cost items, but his F/B score is only 16 94.4% ( can't work that out as he only has one neg but quite a few comments about slow payment etc!!)and as i will have to pay up front at leat 4.50 for SD, i am a bit loathe to do so.
Have emailed him to ask if he can send postal order by SD but as yet no reply.
  • I would not, under any circumstances ship to him until you have received payment and it has cleared. If his feedback is indicating slow payment, then the red writing is on the wall - to ship to him without cleared payment could end up costing you.

IMO, if he doesn't reply to your message then that's his problem not yours. To expect you to do as he is requesting is a downright insolent and unreasonable.

Getting a neg isn't the end of your eBaying career. It can be explained with a follow up and is effective with the appropiate wording.

Good luck and don't send without payment ;)
