we bought the vtech smile for my lo's and they still have it now, though alot of these consoles are very expensive now considering what they are, i definately wouldnt allow my 4 year old to have an ipod touch im actually shocked it was recommended. mine have now progressed to a wii which we all love. i echo google on the net there are a lot of fantastic free games online:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

what an ideal present for my 3year old. thank you so much
. 1 down, 2 to go!!
We got these for our boys for their 3rd birthday and I have to say that they are one of th best buys that we have made for our boys, they love them and play with them lots, making the educational part of it fun:jI'm sure you will not be disappointed.
One of our boys has asked for the Mobigo off Father Christmas which, although I have not opened it yet, looks really good too.

"i definately wouldnt allow my 4 year old to have an ipod touch"
Why the prejudice? Do you know what they actually do and what they offer?
The phonetics app we have downloaded is no different to what she is learning at school. She also uses the 'mathletics' system at school and we've found an app which replicates this - both apps were less than the cost of a children's magazine.0 -
we are getting the leapster explorer for my 4 yr old this yr, we did look at the mobigo but the leapster is bringing out a camera attachment this month as he wanted a toy camera as well.
you can also download stuff from the internet and they have different levels to complete online as well.
and for the poster who said an ipod touch, bit of a price difference, wouldnt give one to my 4 yr old, he is far too rough with stuff.0 -

i have to agree an older child maybe i have nothing against ipod touches as my eldest will be 10 then and wants one but a four year old i feel it is too young plus huge price and for their little hands i feel they need something chunkier ie the control pad/book etc to hold:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0 -
I got my DD a Vsmile console 2 years ago and she still loves it now, shes only allowed to play on it at certain times and only for a limited amount of time.
It hasnt taken her interest away from books because that is her 1st love, but it has helped with her hand eye co-ordination an awful lot.
I would reccomend it.

DS got a leapster 2 for his 4th birthday. It's a handheld and we got it for him [STRIKE]as it was only £19.99 for a special Star Wars branded handset with Star Wars maths game [/STRIKE] he really enjoyed the time he played on his cousins DS.
He still plays with it 2 and a half years on - range of games (which incidentally are all educational...) include sonic, wolverine, star wars.
I see nothing wrong with kids having consoles. He plays on it about once a week, along with club penguin on the computer every now and then and, SHOCK HORROR, he ACTUALLY watches the television. I obviously must be a terrible mother.
