in Credit cards
hi
I have obtained a free trial of my credit report and everything seems ok.
I have only lived at my current address for 2 years 2 months and have only been with my bank for about 3 years. Have a mortgage and another credit card (£1500 limit) never missed a payment with these.
I am on the electoral roll, but don't have a landline. Though surely this could not be the only factor in deciding credit as it seems so stupid.
Thanks

Landline is more or less a must for credit..........Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
but why.....
and how come it wasn't a problem for my mortgage or other credit card (which came with my bank account)0 -

BTW, were you traceable on the Electoral Roll at your previous addresses over the last 3/6 years.0 -

Thanks. But it's stupid of them! With so many good mobile deals I know loads of people without land lines. Surely buying a house is more of an indicator of putting down roots and being stable! Grrr these stupid banks annoy me!YorkshireBoy wrote:Your mortgage is secured lending, meaning they can repossess if you default. Similarly, the bank probably has the power of 'offset' with your credit card, ie they can take money from your current account if you default on your credit card payments.
Aah this makes senseYorkshireBoy wrote:BTW, were you traceable on the Electoral Roll at your previous addresses over the last 3/6 years.

Perhaps you just did not fit their target market.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0

problem I have now is what do I do to make sure I don't get turned down again. I wont apply for a while as I know that can look bad.
But I don't see anyway I could improve my rating other than getting a landline (which I could do and probably would before applying again even though it's a complete waste of money) and just keep paying everything on time.
If I do not fit a particular target market or it is something more than just getting a landline, I could keep applying and keep getting turned down and then that would look bad and prevent me getting further credit
It is so frustrating0 -
Sign up with https://www.orbtalk.co.uk for a free UK geographical number using VOIP. They won't be able to tell it's not a "real" landline.
If you have broadband via cable @ home you'll be able to receive calls on your PC. Failing that callers will be able to leave voicemail which ends up in your email inbox. And you can always add credit so you can use it for outbound calls if you use up your free minutes.0 -
thanks loads gooseye. have done that already!
I have just got broadband connected so can receive calls through pc.
But... some more advice please.
Once I have a landline number I would like to reapply for a cc. How long should I leave it so that it doesn't look like I'm applying every month or so.
