Ex-partner got MY credit history

Hallo, I didn't know where to post this.
My ex-boyfriend text me today asking why I had asked for two credit checks lately - along with the dates. Turns out he applied for HIS credit history... and got MINE too! We've been split up for 4 and a half years now, though we did used to have a joint bank account and lived together for 2 years til we split - 4 and a half years ago. So why is he getting MY credit history!?
I'm really angry  that he's been given such information about me that I do not want him to know about! My credit history's always been great - but his has not... in fact, the house I'm in now I bought in my OWN name 'cause his credit history was so bad he couldn't get a mortgage.
I'm also worried now that we're joined for credit checks - and that I'm gonna be getting punished for his money problems even though he's nothing to do with me!
He won't tell me which credit check folk he got the info from. Guessing 'cause if he IS joined to me, it's all the better for HIM with his bad with money history...
Help! Please!
I really want to sell this place and buy somewhere bigger next year and just worried now that I'll not get a mortgage 'cause of him. Plus I don't want him getting my personal information again!
Thanks
Louise

Deep breath...
Did you ever close the joint account? If you didn't then you're still financially linked.
Check all 3 credit reference agencies and see where the financial link is - then ask them to remove it assuming the joint account is closed.
You need to check your files semi regularly at least - if nothing else then to protect yourself from people taking out debts in your name - it woudl show up on here...
Once you're you're dis-associated his history will have no impact on your credit file at all so don't worry too much.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Hi,
I'm not an expert so i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong but when i got divorced i had to write to credit expert to say that me and ex were no longer financially linked.
It still shows our old joint mortgage on my credit file and shows him as someone i was financially linked with but we can't see each others applications (which is handy cos he now on an IVA).
I would write to them to make sure you are not linked.0 -
The joint account was never closed - it was mine for 7 years before he was on it as an additional card holder for 2 years, then he was removed from it and it's been just mine again ever since.
You say once I've taken his name off any that show him his history won't have any affect on mine - but what about anything he's done in the last 4 years whilst he's been on mine?
So what are all these credit people? I only know Experian.
Can't believe you've to do all this when you weren't ever even on a joint mortgage etc. You'd think the Bank might've thought to mention it when I met with them and they removed him from my account etc! Sheesh!Pay off ALL my debt by Xmas 2012 Challenge #282

I would get a copy of your report from all 3 credit agencies experian, equifax and call credit and see what information they hold.
If he is still showing as financially linked to you then i would write to all 3 saying that you seperated 4 years ago and that he should not be associated with you. I would guess that then anything he's done in the last 4 years would also be disassociated.
You can get a statutory copy of your credit files.

hope this helps0 -
your always linked through previous addresses too, but when i applied for my credit report, i only got my own, i never even got my wifes. i could have got it but i would have had to applt seperately, i don't see why he'd have got yours. you should get in touch with the credit agency0

he may not have your file, he may just have an association search...could be winding you up0

On my Experian file, I see when my other half applies for anything as we are financially linked and therefore, my credit record gets searched too. However, I don't see her record - just that I've been searched as a result of an application that she has made - I get the date of the application and the name of the company. No more than that.
My report hasn't "adopted" any of my other half's credit information - it's just a search that is registered. I don't think the data about credit accounts (unless joint!) will "migrate" to the record of an associated person's record - if that makes sense!?.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

Hax is right. Financial data is never revealed but, if you're financially linked to someone, you will see if your data has been accessed because of an application your financial associate has made. The key issue is this. Once a financial link is registered, it remains on file until one of the two people notifies the credit reference agencies that the financial relationship has ended. We have a detailed advice guide on relationship breakdown. Just Google 'Credit Crossroads'.
