Hospital staff parking fine

The general consensus of the following problem is that I ignore and don't pay!!! Does anyone else have any different ideas before I file the fine in the drawer forever? (hopefully!)....

Hi there,

I am in a predicament with a parking fine I got at my hospital yesterday. Can you help???

I pay £15 a month to park for work but that doesn't guarantee me a space and they have brought in a private firm to control parking fines. I was in a staff parking area but supposedly not in a 'designated bay', so they slapped a ticket on 5 mins after i walked away (were they watching me?!). It is £85 or £60 within 14 days. However on returning to the space today to check, the notice that is up clearly states terms of parking there - all of which i was abiding by, and it says nothing about having to be within lines of a designated bay. I was tucked in neatly behind a row of 4 cars, next to the curb and on no double yellow lines. I wasn't obstructing anyone or anything and don't believe the ticket is justified.

I'm worried about ignoring it completely in case I end up paying a fortune eventually but don't hold out much hope of being able to contest it once I've paid.

Can anyone advise???....

I think you'll find if you actually look at my profile that i only registered for the forum today!!

    Thanks for your help though...
  • I think the confusion lies with the sudden surge of this type of ticket. There's another one or two further down, please take a look. They bear a close resemblance to your problem.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • Have you taken a photo of the sign and printed it and communicated with the private company to dispute the parking ticket?

!!!!!! would you want to do that???

It's a PPC so any advice other than "ignore, ignore, ignore some more" is a waste of time and effort and acts to confuse posters.

So for clarity....don't do anything other than ignore, ignore, ignore some more.

What is the point of that ? I can tell you the outcome of the appeal without a stamp:

    Appeal denied !

So the advice is to ignore
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

    Ignore.

And so say all of us!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Hi
    1 You paid = ignore
2 You caused no obstruction = ignore
3 markings mean nothing = ignore
4 contacting them just encourages them = ignore

And to add if your staff have to pay and in a staff car park the only thing they should be checking is whether you are staff or not. Even then they have no right to charge you for not parking in 'designated bay'. Surely with everyone paying £15 per month or £180 per year per car they could afford a barrier system with a smart card.

I am a registered theatre nurse working at a hospital in the South of England.
I pay £20 a month deducted from my pay for a parking permit this does not guarantee me a parking place even in the staff car park.

Depending on shifts/training etc I may have to park in the visitors car park area. I have been told I must pay the charges as pay and display this may be up to 12 hours depending on my shift. If not I could be fined, one staff has recently been clamped whilst working on the wards.
    Therefore the questions raised are:
Do I have to pay the pay and display?
If i am paying £20 a month for parking does that not cover my parking? (There is no rebate if on holiday.)
    Are the fines enforceable?

The private firm is contracted by the hospital who seems to let them do as they please. At times the parking enforcers are unhelpful when you put forward concerns/problems. They say its not their problem there are no parking spaces if my shift does not fit in with the spaces available.

Also a side issue. The parking permit which we are given displays our names. With recent events of nurses being attacked in car parks/stalked etc I feel this is unecessary. I asked why not issue numbers to correspond to names on a computer. i was told they need the name so they can find you if your car gets "bumped". I said I would put the extension number of my dept instead of my name. i was told that meant the parking permit was not valid and i would be fined. What of data protection etc?
Anyone out there able to help a disgruntled nurse?

Just to correct one point from above. It's not a "fine". Only the police, the council or the courts can impose fines. What they are dishing out is an unenforcible invoice. As for all the problems you mention, I should get your union involved.
