Honda Jazz automatic making odd noise
I have a 5 year old Honda Jazz, which has done 37k miles.
Within the last 2-3 weeks I've noticed a slightly odd noise when starting the car up. It also is audible when at traffic lights, it seems to only be obvious when starting the car up having not used it for a few days. The noise can only be described as the chunky kind of engine noise a diesel car makes. However, to make things far easier, I have recorded the sound and uploaded it here:

At about 4-5 seconds it is most obvious. Bear in mind that there is background 'air' type noise but if you listen carefully, it's quite easy to make out the noise I'm talking about.
Is it a fan or auxiliary belt? I basically know next to nothing about cars, but can't help but worry when my car makes an odd noise. I immediately envisage extremely expensive repairs.

Sounded like ticking tappets. Has it got oil in the engine?0

If the car has been idle for a few days then the oil could drain out of the tappets. They will still be covered in a film of oil but once the oil pressure increases the cavities causing the tappety sound are filled with oil and the sound disappears. I don't think this is a problem given your usage and that it is only on start-up.
Honda Jazz's do seem to have an expensive 60k service which I think involves adjusting or inspecting the tappets. The man without a signature.0 -
Well you've done the right thing by investigating this...... Most people just whack the stereo on to drown out the noise, THEN find themselves with a blown up engine and huge repair bill.
Can't check out the audio from here though, will have to later.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'm not sure if you mean the clunk noise at 2-3 seconds, or the clattering. If the former, check the engine mounts, also check the fanbelt pulleys aren't degrading. If the latter, see above. Mine gets noisier the more the oil ages.0

How can fanbelt pulleys degrade? They are made of metal and last the life of the car in my experience.0

probably miles davis stuck in there."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
