As I said before, i've never had any problems with buying from Dell online and I just ordered another a laptop a couple of days ago. But be aware, I forgot about this yesterday until I got a phone call from the fraud detection department at my bank checking to see if I had made the transaction - I had this last year when I bought my son's laptop from Dell as well - apparently our bank (RBS) says that there's a lot of fraud regarding Dell. Not Dell's fault, but some people trying to buy something fraudulently. It raises a 'watch' on your card apparently (which stops as soon as you confirm you made the purchase). I had this when I bought a washing machine online (not from Dell obviously lol) a couple of months ago. I think spending a significant amount at certain locations something raises this issue.
Nothing to worry about, but just to make you aware. Your bank might not do this.0 -
Dont get the "Slimline" version if you buying a desktop....they are not as Upgradable.Dells are as upgradable as any other machine.

I had the biggest load of hassle buying a Dell laptop last December that I will never buy Dell again. I bought it on the buy now pay later offer and the finance section of Dell kept losing my information, insisted agreements were faxed back and not scanned and emailed and (Dell) threatened on several occasions to cancel the order. I patiently kept ringing up but there call centre is overseas and tbh their staff do not have the easiest of accents to understand so it was really hard work.
Additionally another Dell laptop that we have had a couple of years started having problems with the battery not charging correctly. When we googled it, it seems this is a Dell issue and replacing the battery doesn't solve it.
So I wouldn't recommend Dell - too big a company, with little regard for customers, even at the pre-purchase stage.0 -
Delivery times will vary as they build to order, so it depends on the spec you customise it to. I've never had to wait more than about 5 working days though.
Remember to order via Quidco to get the cashback.
If you want to order by phone, order as a business customer (Dell don't care if you're buying for business or not) and you will generally get more personal service, prices are exactly the same, but the VAT is not quoted as inclusive.No free lunch, and no free laptop

never had a problem with their after service. If you take the basic it doesnt include software issues after I think 30 days, Microsoft wont help either cause they treat it like its nothing to do with them, Which to me is the totally unethical.
Anyway my laptop keyboard stopped working, called up the Dell support, It was a known bug in the motherboard bios which needed to just be flashed. As I couldn't use the keyboard to go to the website, they emailed me the link, and flashed the bios and it worked. Sorted, never had a problem since. had it over 1 yr now and still fast as the day I got it.
Use Topcashback and use their link to Dell if buying direct from the main site (not Dell Outlet) as you can get 6-7% back. With all the discount codes and special offers the laptop went from £810 to £530 (£275 off marked price, 10% discount code, 6% cashback)Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740 -
Be cautious over estimated delivery times. I placed an order with them on 12/11/10 (having been told 7-10 working days for delivery) and got an estimated delivery of on or before 24/11/10. Now the delivery has moved to 4/1/11. But if you ring up as a new customer for the same machine you are still quoted 7-10 working days. Naughty0

Thats because as stated before they are built to order normally.. Can you imagine how many orders they are getting at this near christmas time? One non-standard component that's not in stock will push the build time up accordingly. But I've bought from Dell 3 times and never waited more than 4 working days.No free lunch, and no free laptop
