Other people have mentioned it on here it seems that you get talked at and given advice & leaflets for approx 45mins then have the oppurtunity to ask questions at the end. I'm not on JSA though so i'm not talking from experience. x

It's just a talk about extra stuff available through your job centre. Nothing to worry about. Only has to sit and listen.

He needs to work on this, as being in work might mean he has to attend meetings, do work in groups etc.

it is a mandatory meeting the government introduced to give more information on the assistance available as not all information can be gone over at the initial interview or when he signs, it will go over benefit conditions, funding should there be something he is interested in doing - courses, certificates etc. more information on the local job front and other information he might find useful either now or in the near future (hopefully he wont need it though) some things he will know already but these group sessions are not tailored to individuals but just a general overview. Its nothing to worry about, he does not have to participate and do the my name is **** and i'm unemployed or anything like that, he just sits and listens and asks questions if he feels comfortable doing that

He's hardly going to be asked to give a presentation on a course like this! Introducing himself will be as far as it goes.
  • He won't have to say a word. Just listen.

We had a power point presentation given. It was a bit boring, going over stuff like where to look for jobs etc, a few interesting bits.

Basically you can ask questions if you want to, or you can sit and say nothing. Up to you. There were both types in our group. They don't pounce on you, but once or twice they expected a nod of the head or asked a fairly obvious question that they just wait for someone to speak up and answer.
