What details do mobile companies share?

Good evening all. I'm a long time browser of these forums but this is the first time I've posted. It's prompted by the - seemingly now obligatory - mobile phone insurance cold call I received earlier today from an 0845 number with a recorded message if you call it back.

I upgraded my phone through Orange very recently. The upgrade was over the phone and I wasn't given an opt-in/out choice for personal data. I will discuss this with Orange in due course, I assume this dates back to the initial contract.

The caller today knew my name, mobile number, type of new phone, and unless he was a very good guesser, my post code and date of birth. Does anyone know exactly what details Orange / mobile companies typically share?

Comments

  • Should I have put this in the mobile phone section? If so, can I move it?
  • My OH is on t-mobile and he receives these types of calls too, they know everything about the details on his account. Seems pretty crappy that they obviously sell on your details to make a fast buck!
