z..zz.zzz. files on my computer.

I noticed the space on my pc was fuller than it should be (it double from 26gb to 50 plus in a few days)and put it into a repair shop. They didnt find anything wrong except that when defraggler was ran it counted the moved files as well as the space they had been moved from.I have found lots of files with zz.zz.z.zz and have tried to remove them with my antivirus.Does anybody know what they are please.

they sound like keylogger files to me

can you open them in word pad if it looks like a load of junk then it most likely is a keylogger it records what you type and emails to a destination very very dodgy.

they are normally named xxx.yyy.xxx and things like that i have never seen it as you typed it.

a good malware remover should do the trick like malwarebytes

the only other thing it may be is that if you have ccleaner installed on your machine remove it as that can do stupid stuff like that

how much did they charge you for that in the repair shop

Hi i cant open them in wordpad,i deleted the defraggler and the ccleaner and will try the malaware scan.Thank you i hope this does it.They charged £20 to look over the pc if i cant get rid of them i will have to take it back.I googled the files i found and nothing came up for them .

This is one of the files
    3590F75ABA9E485486C100C1A9D4FF06ZZ..Z.Z..Z..Z.ZZ
  • i personally wouldnt take it back as if they could sort it the first time they never will

if you google "malwarebytes" you will find the software to help
  • According to this , and several other sites, they are Z-Zip files created by Z-Zip software compression utility.

    It's certainly a file extension I hadn't encountered before.

    eg c:\windows\temp\didijdiji.zzz
    c:\documents and settings\user\didjijdi.zzz

if they are in the root of c:\ they are perfectly innocent ccleaner wipe free space files, and can be deleted in explorer.
