Home Insurance - new to us home help

I wonder is anyone can help me. We have sold our home and bought another. Part of the T&C's of the mortgage offer is our solicitor must have a copy of our buildings insurance schedule before date of entry which I though would be fine and no problem. My plan was to call our current insurer 'swinton' and just notify them of impending move and they would send me a schedule to pass to my solicitor for the entry date with the insurance becoming valid on entry date.

I called Swinton this afternoon and apparently that is not possible, they can either switch policy on the day of entry and schedule will then be sent by post to new address or to cancel existing policy and start a new 12 month policy but documents need to be sent to new address 'by law' Now TBH I think the woman i spoke to was talking rubbish, surely I am not the only person who has needed a buildings insurance cert to give to solicitor befor ethe entry date so how does everyone else manage it??

    Swinton is your problem here!

Contact another broker who will be able to sort this out - you are right, it is a common issue, (and without the insurance in place, you won't get the mortgage).

How can another broker sort it out?
If Swinton set it up, since when can other brokers take over?

Another broker will set them up a policy, and give them the certificate which swinton apparently can't do.

More independent reviews of swinton's so called service for home insurers here:

So you're suggesting starting a new 12 month policy with another broker, and then cancelling swintons.
    Isn't that what swinton said?
Wouldn't better advise be to ring back and speak to a manager?
Or shop round for a new quote, and find a decent direct insurer, that you can deal with over the phone to get the documents sent to your house, without soley having to use a broker.

Just read the review, 4 out of 5 for service, which reflects my dealings with them.
Good, helpful, and a fair price.

2 out of 5 for claims, probably when you're not at your best though.
