I've also just had one from them. A notice of "impending court action" Also claiming I owe British Gas money.

I've just got one of those letters too.

Phoned British Gas AGAIN who said they had already told them that the money owed had nothing to do with me. And said, they couldn't escalate it any more and that I should phone them.

I did. Gave the details, and was abruptly told that 'the details would be removed' - quickly followed by 'thank you, goodbye'. Wanted to confirm that my name and address had been removed and ask for clarification of the 'details'???, but didn't get the chance.

I've still got letters, council tax bills, etc showing that I was at this address during the debt period, so am not that fussed.

Just don't want this rubbish affecting my credit rating. Could it???

If you get anything else from them, i would write an official letter of complain stating that this is harrassment. You have written proof from BG that you do not owe anything and will be making a complaint to the regulator. Also state thatunder section 10 of the DPA, you require them to stop processing your data (there will be a template with the appropriate wording around somewhere) and require them to provide written confirmation that your data has been removed and that you do not owe them anything.
After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

    Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/2011

Thanks for that. I've got the template ready to fire off at them if they keep on hassling me.

I'll also contact the OFT if they continue, that is if I can work out which of the numbers on their website to call them on - they don't make it easy.
