can't find child benefit 'number' help!

As the title says i can't find the paper work with the child benefit number on it and they wont obviously give it over the phone and have offered to issue a letter, what is the expected time for correspondence from them to be received as it is holding up my child tax credit claim!

if you get chb paid into your account- check your bank statement/bank account it sometimes shows there

I have requested a new one as I also need it and have been told that it takes between 3-5 working days. Currently on day 4...
