    Hi Cat,
I'm so sorry to hear how they've made you feel. I went through exactly the same thing back in February. They are no help at all when you phone them. Once I eventually got through to someone who could help I was told to fill the appeal form in. I also got some help from the Citizens Advice Bureau who took a great deal of the worry away & dealt directly with them. You also need to phone them & ask to have your money paid at a reduced rate until the appeal is heard. I'm not sure how much this will effect you but for me it was a bout £20 a week less.
I just felt total despair, victimised & that they were calling me a liar.
It's their forms that are at fault & the doctor that saw me was not fit to assess me in a 15 minute interview.
There was a chap on the One Show a couple of weeks ago with quite severe Parkinsons disease & he scored nothing!!!!!! Which in theory meant he had absolutely nothing wrong him.
They are using these forms & not treating each person as an individual. We all know there are people out there who are on the fiddle, but there are also genuine people whose lives are being made considerably worse by all this.
I hope you can find the correct numbers to phone & get the advice you need.
Take care & I hope you get something sorted tomorrow. Hope you get this tonight & it helps you sleep.

Hi Kim, thankyou so much for your lovely message. Did things sort out fine, you get your benefit reinstated? You're right, help is vital ... and the helpfulness of you and everyone here is so great ... helps me find some light in all of this. I'll get on and phone about the reduced amount. And you're right ... I feel totally conned ... I was completely honest with them, 100% ... the doctor who did the medical had been so nice, wishing me well ... but clearly is the total opposite to how he seemed ... it's like I got someone else's results! Can't take in yet how much worse this has made everything.
Someone with Parkinson's getting 0 points is atrocious! Just looked to see if I could find a clip of the programme ... they were saying about IB decisions being unfair on some was the main point? It's great if the media are getting involved, as what's being done is criminal to people in genuine need.
Many thanks again. Love from Cat

Cat it might help if you ask your hospital consultant to write a report on your Orthopedic assessments, it would help explain your mobility limitations and give a time line for your surgeries... just a thought

  • I am really sorry you are having to deal with this Cat. I hope that you can get the decision overturned and that the process will be as painless as possible. This is so unfair and makes me angry and upset on your behalf. Thinking of you right now. xxx

  • Hi everyone

As an update, I'm on I.S. for now, reduced to £98 to pay back 2 crisis loans (to date), and have been able to get very strong proof to support my appeal about I.B. ... new doctor who is really great and has written such an honest and supportive letter on my behalf, and hospital statement too, and rape counselling organisation has offered to write a letter also ... was due there today for first appointment, but was cancelled due to weather.

Particularly struggling very much about the cold ... am seeing that most likely I fall between all camps right now, as I DO qualify for I.B./have health problems, but am officially on I.S. while appealing, and without any disability premium in the I.S. payment ... upset as I really do need cold weather payment to help ... ??????

    Best regards, Cat
