child benefit stopped

Need a bit of advice, went to collect child benefit on monday, as i always have done for the past 17 years, it was,nt in my account, when i phoned child benefit next day they said a rival claim had been put in on the 5th of november, and that a letter had been posted informing me of this. Now this came as abit of a shock the only other person who would have any right to claim CB, my kids Dad has been dead for 2 an half years. Also left contact number for them to call me back, still waiting!!!. I have been my kids sole carer 99% of their lives, apart from a few months a few years ago when my youngest son stayed with his Dad. Now i am in a panic cause i,m worried what will happen with child tax credits if CB has been stopped. There is no way i,d be able to support us all on my wages from work, an Xmas just round corner. I,v had an awful time before trying to get through stuff like this with Tax credit,s. Any advice please!!

The only advice I can give on this is to call them don't wait for a call back, keep calling until somebody investigates it for you. Hopefully somebody more up to speed on cb will be along .....

Thanks for the reply, i,v just done what you suggested, an apparently they have 5 working days to ring back, that takes me to tuesday of next week!! Oh and the letters they,re sending me to inform me of rival claim have,nt even been posted yet. Give me strenght.......

as there is no one else who could legally be claiming, the other claim may be fraudulent. Start muttering about fraud...
