DLA is based on your care and mobility needs not whether you are able to volunteer/work so I don't see any problem with you volunteering. If your care/mobility needs have changed then you need to inform the DLA. Otherwise I don't think it matters.

DLA direct.gov.uk has a list of change in circumstances you need to inform DLA of.
  • I am receiving LRM as i need someone with me when i go to unfamiliar places (i'm not agoraphobic but i still panic in unfamiliar places.....is volunteering classed as 'unfamiliar' (i'm ok going into town alone as this is a'familiar' place - all the charitys' are based in town, hence a place that is 'familiar' to me)........i'm not sure what to do .............can i volunteer or not??

    any clarity??

Why would you not be able to volunteer as what you do with your day is your business as long as your care / mobility needs havent changed. If you are normally able to go into town alone but got awarded your DLA for other situations and care needs no issue. If you are now able to do more than before then its not a case of not being able to volunteer but informing DLA that your needs have changed. However find it odd that DLA is your only income, if you are on IS, ESA working tax credits etc, these would be affected.

hi, my situation hasn't changed as i still need help in unfamiliar places (i was awarded LRM for this reason) - do i still need to inform DLA??

(i'm reluctant to claim more benefits as it all seems like a nightmare!!)

    thanks for any help
