Whats the next step?

Hi Guys

I have a problem with Vodafone, with a mobile contract.

I wrote to vodafone in April, stating that I was giving 30 days notice to cancel my contract.
I also emailed them using their "contact us" section on their website.

I heard nothing from them, and went on to cancel my direct debit, thinking that was the end of the matter.

Looking back, I should have chased up an acknowledgement of the cancellation, but life took over, and it slipped my mind.

I have now had a notice of unpaid bill from their debt collection agency.

I immediately contacted Vodafone(in writing) explaining that I belieed in good faith that the contract was cancelled.

Vodafone are saying they have no record of my letter, and that I must contact the agency direct to pay the amount.

I havent rung them yet, I have never been in this situation before and if Im really honest, Im a bit scared of phoning.

Where do I stand with this? Can they make me pay? I really would like to know how I stand before I make the call!

Its for £150 approx, so in the grand scheme of things its not too bad, but Im really worried about it, as I dont really have this spare (I cancelled the contract due to change in job/money situation)

Any advice or past experience would really help me.....

thanks loads

Firstly, tell the debt collection agency that you 'deny the debt' and ask them to stop chasing you. Explain that you are pursuing this with Vodafone and that they must take the matter up with Vodafone also. This should, hopefully, get the debt collectors off your back.

However, you still have to resolve the matter with Vodafone. Do you have a copy of the original letter or the email you sent?

    Thanks for your reply,

I havent a copy of the email, as it was done in a message box facility on the website and not through my emails as such.

I think I have a copy of the letter, but no proof of postage.

Will pluck up the courage to call debt people tomorrow, hopefully will get something done.

You conveniently neglected to mention whether you were out of contract or not.

Not "convieniently" just wasnt relevant I didnt think, but yes my contract allows me to cancel after 30 days notice. I had followed the correct procedure, just that Vodafone can see no trace.

If you email Vodafone through their website you receive an acknowledgement email. Do you have this?
