Pet Insurance - what's the latest?

I've read around old posts on pet insurance but not able to draw any conclusions. The Link on the main site hasn't been updated since 2006.

My previous cat (now RIP) was with petplan and we did claim a fair bit for his kidney failure in the last 6 months of his life. The excess seemed a lot though, and I'm not sure that it was ever worth 13 years worth of premiums. But that's the thing with insurance - if things go well you don't get your money back!!

I now want to insure our 3 month old kitten - who can I rely on to pay out in a time of need, without having a big excess and without them saying they won't pay because she wasn't vaccinated yearly/checked yearly or whatever other excuses are out there?!
