Currys price increase

At the end of October ( 29th ) I was looking at Acer netbooks on the web and found this one at Currys , Pc World and Dixons at £239.99 which ticked all the boxes for what I was after.

After searching the internet I found that Currys was the cheapest place to buy it from so returned on the 2nd November with a view to placing an order and was gobsmacked to see it had increased to £339.99 despite the RRP being £249.99 for the 16OGB base model , which is what Currys are selling, there was a similar increase on other Acer's I was looking at too.

At the time of the price hike their website was updated to a new look so I emailed customer.services@dixonsretail.com on 3rd Nov. asking if it was a pricing error but found that was a waste of time as I've had no reply.

I assume that they have hiked up the prices to drop them back down in time for the busy period before Christmas and advertise them as a sale items.... Save £100 was £339.99 now only £239.99.

Ah well , given Currys reputation for customer service they've probably done me a favour as I'll now buy it from John Lewis who are selling the 250 GB version for £249.99.

Me and the wife were looking a getting a TV last year and within a couple of weeks the TV we wanted had gone up over £200 !! , then just after Christmas they kindly had on sale with £200 knocked off .... cheeky !

If you see something at a price you want, if you don't buy it and it goes up, then that's just how it is.

Fair enough but when it goes up almost 40% over the RRP just so it can be reduced to a super sale price in a few weeks time is taking the **** out of people and DSG know this and I guess that's why they've ignored my email.

It should be made law that the RRP price should be clearly labelled on sales prices....... e.g. was previously £339.99 now £239.99 , RRP £249.99 so the people who blindly shop * at Currys etc can see that the original price was a rip off to start with.

If that happened then it wouldn't be long before the only shelves Esqui and his/her colleagues would be worried about would be the supermarket ones they're stacking beans on.:D

Is £249.99 definately the RRP for it? It would seem strange even with the sale business to have it for sale at almost £100 more.

As far as the sale prices go, I know for instance Argos do have all sorts of symbols to explain previous price when there sale catalouge comes out.

Usually something along the lines of SAVE £150!!! (followed by 3 different symbols such as stars and diamonds) SALE PRICE £249.99, was £399.99 from 15th Jun - 25th Jun, £309.99 16th July - 27th July, £279.99 1st Nov - 24th Dec.

All the major retailers do it. The Asda half price toy sale, one item £30 down to £15, I paid £8 from them just before the "sale". Halfords bikes, car audio and sat nav exactly the same. Working in retail for several years it became obvious what next month's specials would be :o
  • Surprise surprise it's now on offer at £229 - Save £110.99

Worked out pretty good in the end as J. Lewis were waiting for stock and I ended up buying a similar spec. Asus at Currys for £189.00 ( £10 off online code ) and 3% cashback through Quidco :)
