ceramic kitchen sink

Hi there
I would like to buy a ceramic sink for my new kitchen - I am looking at the astracast equinox. However I have read a review that says it needs constant cleaning ... has anyone else had this experience and would you buy a ceramic sink again.

Many thanks
Anne

We are getting a new kitchen for the new house and the advice we got as it wil stain or fade (depending on colour) and tha was from the saleswoman at Magnet.

We decided to play safe and go for a brushed Stainless one
  • Shouldn't fade and if it does within 5 years then contact manufacturer about it. As for cleaning use bio washing powder and boiling water but be aware it will scratch so you will need a mat in the bowl. If you do get scratches (china rub's) from other china on it then you can buy a Kramer china rubber and that should remove them.

We have a belfast sink and I have to say it does get dirty very quickly. A couple of cups of tea sloshed down the sink and its looking like its not been cleaned in years. Also, lots of scratches on it very quickly despite using a mat thing :( Great shame cos apart from that I mean its just right with our kitchen units which are all hand painted. Worth the agro in our case.

May be I should try that Kramer rubber.

I have always found ceramic sinks much easier to keep clean than stainless steel. But having said that, I've only ever had stainless steel sinks that I've inherited with kitchens, so I guess any protective surface could well have been scrubbed off before I got to them. I've also only ever had plain white ceramic.

I think things like tea are going to mark any kind of sink really. I'm in a hard water area and the thing that I hate about the stainless steel is the water marks - at least with ceramic I can just wipe it down and it looks fine, whereas the steel always looks dull and blotchy unless it's polished with a dry cloth.

Franke sell a white composite sink (well several colours) not pure white but they are supposed to be very durable.
