    The koss ones really are!

You squeeze them then put them in your ear, they expand again in there & stay in place! As I said they block out all other noise & don't fall out!

Just a quick note on these headphones, After my sony EX71's ones broke last week I got a pair of these from EPCBuyer on Ebay and they are superb.

They're a lot lighter than my sony ones and also give a generally better sound. Once you've had these ear plug style of headphones you can never go back to the cheap 'square' shaped plugs. How i put up with them in my ears I'll never know!

These are the real deal that came in the Sennheiser blister pack, not some envelope or plastic bag

Btw - I don't know or am not affiliated with this seller. Just got a good bargain and happy to share!
  • Good 'phones for the price, but nothing compared to my Shure E3C and Etymotic ER6i canalphones. ;)

Folk, be careful with ebay CX300's. The CX300 is indeed a great sounding earphone, and the pair I got from play.com - after I bought a pair from ebay for about £10 that turned out to be fake - are indeed fantastic.

I still have the fake and the real pair, and so can compare them side by side. The fake ones sound very poor, but they are very, very, well copied - there are only some very small details that give it away.

Unless anyone can tell me otherwise, wisdom out on the net is that Sennheiser do NOT sell CX300's in OEM packaging - i.e. a little plastic envelope or box.

The ebay CX300's were visually a very good fake. The leads were the same sort of soft feel - but slightly thicker. They had a right angled connector but what gave it away was the silver ring between the phone body and the ear canal insert. This ring has an indentation in it which is not symetric - so that it appears that there are two silver bands - one wider than the other. On the genuine CX300, the wider band is next to the ear canal insert, on the fake CX300's that I had, it was the other way round.

Additional things to look out for (in my experience):

    1. The marking of "L" and "R" where the cables connect to the earbud are very slightly different on fakes.

    2. Sennheiser give the lengths of each of the earphone leads on their website. The length of the fake ones differ.

    3. On the fakes, the plastic replacable bits that go in your ear feel like they are made out of the sort of plastic that covers those packs of cheese slices down Tescos. The real one feels slightly more soft/gel like.

Hope this helps you not to get ripped off. It's OK, the seller gave me my money back as he hadn't realised they were fake either.

I bought a pair of these of Ebay last week for £14.99 (endless_sales) They were in a proper sealed packet, the ear pieces are gel like, and one of the cables are longer to go around the back of your head.

Far superior to the headphones that came with my ipod - these are more basey!!!

Definately recommend!! Couldn't believe the difference!!!

Well the CX300's I got from Ebay were only in a cardboard box with Sennheiser logo and hedphone model details on but mine match 100% the description that you gave for the genuine ones. If you refer to my post earlier in this thread you will see that my first pair developed a fault and the seller said I could send them back to Sennheiser UK for replacement under warranty. They wouldn't say that if they were fakes.

Britishbeef, I am not suggesting that you bought a fake. I am just recounting my experience and that I have read that Sennheiser do not sell headphones in OEM packaging. Well they obviously do if you bought a pair that way.

The way I look at it is this: Play.com were selling the real deal for £17.99 - that's about £15.30 before VAT. It cost them to deliver to me - say 2 quid, which brings it down to £13. You would then expect them to make a mark up of about 100% - so I would imagine that an outfit with huge buying power like play.com is probably buying them in at around 7-8 quid.

So, if the average trade price for your ebay seller is around 8 quid, then they are unlikely to sell them on for £9.99 as there isn't enough margin in the deal. I would therefore be suspicious of any CX300's selling on an ebay buy-now for much less than £15 before postage.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound defensive just wanted people to know that there are some genuine ones on Ebay. Most however are fakes on there.
