New TV

OK some of you may remember me asking about lcd verses plasma a while ago. Well after finally getting enough money together to go and buy a new tv, they have decided to hit us with 2 new options LED and 3D

I'm looking at a 40" model if that makes a difference it will be viewed day and night and as of yet wont be viewed using hd but decided to go for full HD for when we do decide to upgrade. I was looking at the samsung le40c654. That model how ever doesnt have led or 3D

So what difference does LED make is it worth the extra cost?

3D is it just a gimmick at the moment would you bother or not?

TIA x

'FOR THE MONEY' LED tvs dont perform as well as LCDs so I certainly wouldnt bother about that
3D In my opinion is a gimmick for now. By all means, if your happy to wear glasses all day whilst watching it then go for it. But tvs without the need for glasses isnt too far away

  • Thanks Rik

i will stick with my first choice then :-)

That particular tv has bad 'input lag'. If its for gaming I wouldnt have it personally

Seems a pretty good tv for the price. But bear in mind you get what you pay for - size, features and quality. Thats not a lot of money for a 50" screen

  • NOt really gamers we have a wii for a bit of fun but thats it, we do watch alot of dvd's so sound is quite important to us as well as the picture. I will be investing in a blue ray at some point put not yet.

What would you recommend Rik ?

I dont mind going for a smaller screen 40" is about as big our living room would comfortably allow so dont want to go any bigger.

    TIA

How much are you willing to spend?
What will be plugged into it and what will it 'generally' be used for?
Does it need decent sound? (Most flats screens have pretty poor sound)

I have just bought a Panasonic LED TV I only wanted a 37in so choice of plasma was very limited.
Choose the LED over the equivalent LCD because it came with free blue ray player and the wife preferred the physical look of LED. To be honest I couldn’t see any difference in picture quality between LED and LCD. I’ve had the TV about a month now and am very happy with it.

In turns of spend no more than £700

Will be used as a general tv i have the old standard sky, for dvd playing (eventually blue ray) watching my soaps and the odd wii game nothing hi tech

I would prefer decent sounds as i dont want seperate speakers everywhere i have enough clutter in the room already and little kids so the less wires the better.

    :-)
