Bed bugs

I've been bitten a few time recently at night and have blamed the cat and dog, so both have been blitzed with anti flea stuff from the vets and I've sprayed everywhere, vacuumed my carpet nearly threadbare and washed and washed the bedding! However I was bitten again in the night and this time caught the little xxx! It doesn't look like a flea, it's longer and thin, not round and fat with long legs. I think it might be a bed bug!
Will the flea spray eventually get rid of these too? Or is there some other preparation I need to get. Or any other ideas for blitzing these? Google gives drastic solutions such as throwing the mattress out, I can't afford to do that, but if it's the only way..............and what happens if I've missed one and it gets into a new mattress?
Help please!.
Thanks

Don't know where you live but this http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/environment/environmental-health--consumer-protection/pest-control/types-of-pest.en;jsessionid=2C571C05EA21A38ACAAD0D207FF784E9
is the advice of Camden Council in London where bed bugs are quite a problem.
Your local environmental health dept will give you advice and information on dealing with the infestation.
That's if they are bed bugs ! You can compare yours with the picture..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

It sort of does really, the long one in the middle anyway, not like a flea, round with long legs, which is what I thought the dog/cat had brought in. Oh lawks, I'm cringing with the thought. I'm going to have to completely deconstruct my bedroom bit by bit. This is the only time in my life I've ever wished I had fleas!
Thanks for the responses.0
