Getting electricity meter & meter board moved

Hi,

I'm need to get my electricity meter and meter board moved from under the stairs to the the opposite wall. Does anyone know who I need to contact and what the process is for this please?

I need to get them moved as we're renovating this space to become a downstairs loo. I would estimate that the meter and meter board date from the 70s or 80s (just in case that's relevant)
Thanks!

    You need to contact your Distribution Network Operator (DNO), they look after the electrical infrastructure including your incoming supply cable, service fuse and meter.

    You can find yours here;

    http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Electricity/AboutElectricity/DistributionCompanies/

    You know this is going to cost, right? Here in Yorkshire our DNO, CEDL, will charge at least £750-800 +VAT to move the supply head (incoming cable, service fuse, meter & board) up to 5m. If it's going on an external wall, they may well want you to supply and fit a suitable meter cupboard (the white wall box) before they come move it, this requirement changes from one DNO to another I'm afraid.

    Still sure you want to move it?

    Hope you're not in London - some of my clients have been quoted £3K to move the main fuse and meter a distance of about 1m on the opposite wall....

    Generally nothing wrong with having the meter/fuse board in the loo as long as it's in a cupboard or away from the sink.

    Thanks fluffpot and zax. I used the map to find my DNO (EDF) and called them only to be told that they weren't my DNO. I ended up calling about 10 different places only to find out that it was EDF afterall and I'd been given misinformation!

    Incase anyone else is searching this thread and wants the information. If you are moving your meter a short distance on the same wall, it is your supplier who deals with this. If not, it is your DNO. I was told it will take 10-12 weeks and will cost between 700-1200. Someone is coming out to my house tomorrow to survey the job and give a proper quote.

    I'm also going to talk to a builder and find out if there's a way to keep the meters where they are and still be able to have a downstairs loo there.

    I appreciate everyone's advice!
