the reason i was installing 98 before was because i wiped everything off the hard drive

If the disc is sp2, try installing an xp disc without sp2 and work from there.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.
  • What model of ibm is it, what size is the hard disk?

It's a strange one, did you manage to fdisk and format the drive with the dos boot disk?

Are you selecting ntfs or fat32 when installing XP.

you could try ntfs.. one is enough, but if you created 2, you could copy the XP CD onto the d: drive.

You haven't told us the specific model number.....

Channces are that it may perform very poorly with XP. That's if you can install it at all.
I had to settle for Windows ME on an IBM Thinkpad I obtained for my niece.

Works nicely now. Have installed Bluetooth and a USB 2.0 card.

No reported stability problems thus far.
