    ted,

Could you tell me a bit more about using ground flaxseed instead of eggs/ fat in baking?

My OH has high cholestrol and I heard about flaxseed in baking on here, but Ive not been able to find muhc about it on the internet. but sounds fascinating as eggs & fat are 2 of the things he can only have very scant amounts of, which is murder for me trying to make anything for our sweet teeth :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Do take not though of the amount of actual omega 3 in fish oil capsules. An 18p tin of Netto's sardines in Tomato sauce will contain at least 2g of omega 3.

A common amount of omega-3 fatty acids in 1000mg fish oil capsules is 0.18 grams (180mg) of EPA and 0.12 grams (120mg) of DHA.= 0.3g Omega 3
If the Poundland capsules are 500mg it would be half that amount.

Assuming they are 1000mg capsules you would need 7 of these to provide as much omega 3 as in one 18p tin of Nettos sardines.
Yes which is why I said if they don't like the taste of sardines, which I don't

Any chance you could tell the other readers exactly how big (500mg or 1000mg) the Poundland caps are?

  • a regular meal that I do is using a large tin of sardines in tomato sauce (Morrisons, about 80p), mashed potato and some veg. Take the bones out of the sardines, put them on a shallow tray with some of the sauce, and cook them in the oven for approx 20 mins

You take the bones out of sardines:eek:
think of all the calcium youre losing!! Of course it depends on the age of your son, if he's only ickl.

I love tinned salmon purely for the bones!!! I'm a strange one

We love tinned tuna. In a tomato sauce with pasta, in white sauce with cheese and parsley, baked in the oven, sprinkled with breadcrumbs to make a pasta bake, or just served in sandwiches with a little mayo and salad, ditto with baked potatoes. Fishcakes (salmon or tuna) are also yummy and my young children love these even though ds would claim not to be a fan of fish .
  • Have a look at this site,

    https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/diet/healthy_eating/oily_fish.htm

This gives you a list of oily fish that include omega 3 and thoses that don't

As others have said there are a number of oils that contain omega 3 including linseed, walnut and rapeseed the latter being generally quite cheap. You can also get omega 3 from whole grains, legumes, nuts and green leafy vegetables.

So I would suggest a collection of the above, and see if there are any oily fish you might enjoy.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

The Poundland capsules are 500mgs I think. My children take 2 a day each as advised by a doctor and their school work has improved 10 fold.

our favourite at the moment is smoked mackerel pate. I use one of those vacuum packs of smoked mackerel which is fairly cheap. Put a pack of mackerel, a couple of tablespoons of natural yoghurt, lemon juice (about half a lemon's worth), and pepper to taste in a blender and blend or use a stick blender. This is great for filling pitta breads, sarnies or on jacket potatoes.
