Changing name of bill payer after breakup

Unfortunately my girlfriend and I have decided to separate. We have a joint tenancy currently and it makes sense for her to continue staying in the flat while I move on. Things are very civilised between us at least.

Half of he bills are in my name alone and half in both our names but everything comes out of the joint account.

Can I phone the suppliers with her details or will she need to do it herself (she's a teacher and doesn't get any chance during the day)?

We'd like to start putting everything onto her sole account and eventually close the joint account, or at least remove my name from it. Protecting my credit score is obviously my biggest priority here.

As the bills are going to be in her name she needs to call them to get the account in her name. For those that are solely in your name, you can phone them, give them a moving out date and a 'final' reading. This will allow them to close your account and send you a final bill up to that date. She then needs to phone to get the account in her name. For those in joint names you may want to try and get the supplier to bill up to the date you move out.

Expect the supplier to ask for proof of change in circumstances, such as a revised tenancy agreement showing her as the sole tenant.

This obviously is unlikely to happen whilst you are still living in the property. You could ask for her name to be included on the account whilst still living together which will allow her to contact the supplier regarding any aspect of the account if the need arose. :)
