Budget home insurance not letting me buy cheap quotes thorough comparison websites

Hi guys need some help with my home insurance (buildings only) renewal due this weekend,

currently with Budget for which I paid £110 last year, they sent me a renewal for £245 to which I rang them up and told how ridiculous that was, nice lady on the phone gave me a quote of £154 to mull over.

been on the comparison websites this evening and low and behold have gotten budget quotes from gocompare+confused for £102.26, I was going ring them up but just checked and they have closed for today.

how should i go about getting the price i have been quoted, as i tried to renew online through the comparison websites and on the budget website it kept blocking quotes saying i am a current customer etc:(.

I'm not very good at haggling so anybody have any tips for me to try to get the £102 price for renewal when I ring them up tomorrow, i would rather stay with them for another year as they are based in my city, much easier if theres any problems etc.

Any help appreciated greatly guys

thanks

Why do you want to stay with an insurance company that has tried to overcharge you twice?

to be honest Mikey, Im just sick of changing home and car insurance every year for me and the OH and the 2 kids, so i thought i would try the haggling route instead of the usual moving to the cheapest each year.

but i get you point, something i'll highlight for them in the morning.
  • just ring and tell them the online price and that you want this........worked for me with the AA...my renewal was £140 ish and the equivalent online offer was £72..i just told them that i wanted that renewal price and they did with no argument...

I have the view of any business that if they try to rip you off, they don't deserve the custom. If they offer a fair price up front, I'll use them, any one that tries to rip me off, I won't.
Insurance is different I must admit, as it's probably the only business I'm compelled to use, and the only one in which every service provider appeared to use the same sales technique as the worst double glazing salesman from the past. Must only be a matter of time before the telephone salesperson "will have to speak to a manager for a special price if you buy now"

Budget offer a new customer discount. If you are already a customer then you dont get the new customer discount. If they dont want to offer the new customer discount to old customers and wont overrule it in your case then you have the choice to go elsewhere.

All the OP would need to do is phone Budget to lapse the policy from renewal and then return to them as a new customer.

Personally I would avoid Budget. Cheap is cheap for a reason.
