Hotmail

Options
I have a little used hotmail account. Over the past few days I have received an email from Hotmail on a different account which is linked to it saying my password has been changed, twice now.

Apart from doing a hard drive wipe is there anything else I need to be doing?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

wiping your hard drive should be LAST thing on the list..

have you checked the email account to see if the password has really changed?

is the email legit from hotmail or a phishing email??

have you got any protection on your pc?? anti virus / spy-malware

if so are they up to date with the definitions?

    have you ran any scans?

have you got easy answers to your secret question on hotmail for fogetting password?

have you clikced any links in the email and reset you password (if its a phisher you could have just gave access to your account)
  • Ok

Spywear malwear up to date, not picking anything up

No easy answers to password questions.

Strange thing is though ,my son has had allot of money taken out of his bank account in the last few days, Halifax are investigating

It is a legit mail from Hotmail, even so haven't clicked on any links

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
just go log into the hotmail account in question on a known clean computer (or mobile phone ect) and try to log in with your password.

if it works then you can either leave it, or change the password to another secure password just to be safe.

if it doesnt work then do the normal password reset procedures and create a new secure password.

    what protection you using?

i would change the password and secret question on both accounts.

but if you have some keylogger or rat on the pc though its pointless changing them till you have dealt with that..

are either of the accounts linked to other stuff? paypal etc?

    standard password used for everything??

unfortunaley there is so many ways people can do things(phishing, social engineering, use of rats, keyloggers etc) and once they got part access alot of the time it can open up so much information to them..
