Wrong. Whether its a cheapo 45w ee athlon or a latest 145w quad core, cpus are designed to work to certain heat tolerances. Assuming the cooling isn't broken and there's sufficient air flow, a £20 cpu will run all day maxed out. Heck our testing servers' running an old P4 at 90-100% usage for 16months straight!. Sure, it might reduce its working life, but by the time that happens, we'll be using hexacore cpu's in our toasters.
Why do you think I run burning in software on all my customer PC builds for hours at a time? Its designed to stress the CPU, memory and mainboard. If it fails then there's a hardware fault irrespective of the load placed.0
